Music Flows Like a River on Opening Night of Grand County Concert Series

January 20, 2012   - Tao Lin opened the 2012 Grand County Concert Series on Friday night, performing on the newly purchased, 1943 Baldwin Concert Grand Piano.

“Music is very connected to nature, with the same rhythm and flow” said Mr. Lin.

Like the Colorado River, with its quiet pools, rushing rapids and descending waterfalls, his piano playing mimicked the water that flows through this valley.

Serenading 166 listeners on the piano recently purchased by the Board of Directors of the Concert Series, he commented, “It played beautifully.”

Mr. Lin began the night with a sonata by German composer Johannes Brahms. Injecting his humor and delightful personality between pieces, Mr. Lin included a French waltz by Maurice Ravel, a Russian sonata by Sergei Rachmaninov, and ended with a special encore, a beautiful Spanish Tango by Albeniz.

Mr. Lin has previously performed in the state of Colorado, in Fort Collins and Aspen. Friday night was his first visit to Grand County.

“Visually this area is fantastic”, he observed.

Raised in Shanghai, China, Tao Lin began piano lessons at the age of 4. Learning from his parents, who were both on the faculty at Shanghai Conservatory of Music, his first public performance was at the age of 5.

He has performed in Asia, North America, and Europe and is the recipient of numerous awards, including “Outstanding International Pedagogue” in Shanghai. He now resides in Coral Springs, Fla., and is on faculty at the Conservatory of Music at Lynn University.

The 2012 Concert Series continues on Friday, Feb. 10 with the Zodiac Trio. There are a total of five concerts left to be performed at the Church of the Eternal Hills in Tabernash, and one surprise concert in the summer, with the performer yet to be announced.
